Description
Beancount.io is a modern hosted accounting platform built on the open-source Beancount plain-text accounting language. It brings double-entry accounting to the developer stack: your ledger is a Git repository where every transaction is versioned, auditable and diff-able, and AI handles the data entry, categorization and double-entry math so you don't need prior accounting or coding knowledge.
You can write Beancount files by hand, import from CSV, OFX or QIF, sync many banks directly via Smart Import, or let the AI assistant draft entries from receipts and statements. Balances, cash flow and holdings can be queried with Beancount Query Language or asked in natural language through a Model Context Protocol server, and the platform exposes OpenAPI and GraphQL for programmatic access. It supports multi-currency, cost-basis and capital-gains tracking, balance assertions for reconciliation, document attachments, and iOS and Android apps.
Because everything stays plain text, there is no vendor lock-in — you can export your ledger anytime, and data is encrypted in transit and at rest. A free tier ($0 forever) covers one ledger, one collaborator and 1,000 entries; paid Premium, Growth, Organization and Enterprise plans add more ledgers, collaborators, AI CFO tokens, automation, SSO and multi-entity consolidation.
