Description
Unearthed is an open-source reading insights platform that brings all of your highlights and notes into one place and helps you rediscover them. It auto-syncs Kindle and KOReader highlights without needing your Amazon credentials, and can pull in full-text RSS articles, YouTube videos and transcripts, and saved webpages as sources you can highlight and annotate alongside your books.

Unearthed comes in several forms. Unearthed Local is a privacy-first desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that runs in the background, syncing your full library, books, articles, highlights, notes, tags and a daily reflection into a vault. Unearthed Online uses a browser extension and an Obsidian plugin to pull highlights and sync them across apps. Unearthed Mobile is a companion PWA for Android and iOS with OCR for capturing quotes from physical books. Optional, opt-in AI adds question prompting, blind-spot detection and a graph view of connections between books.
Everything is open source, including the web app, browser extension and Obsidian plugin, so users can inspect the code, self-host or contribute. Amazon login credentials are never stored or seen, and deleting an account removes the data. Unearthed syncs to apps including Notion, Obsidian, Capacities and Supernotes, and offers a free tier plus paid plans.
