One of the key features of Ground News is its rating system, which adds transparency to news stories. Users can view bias and factuality ratings determined by independent organizations, including AllSides and Ad Fontes Media. This feature empowers readers to discern the credibility of different news sources and make informed decisions about what to read.
Ground News also offers a personalized experience through its My News Bias tool, which analyzes users' reading habits and highlights the slant and reliability of their preferred sources. This helps users adopt a more balanced news diet by exposing them to diverse perspectives.
The platform is accessible via a mobile app, allowing users to swipe between headlines for easy comparison. Ground News is particularly beneficial for those who want to challenge their own biases and gain a comprehensive understanding of current events. By presenting news from various political viewpoints, it encourages critical thinking and informed discussions.
Founded in 2017 by Harleen Kaur and Sukh Singh, Ground News is based in Kitchener, Ontario. The founders, with backgrounds in aerospace engineering and nanotechnology, aimed to create a platform that provides reliable and diverse news coverage without the influence of engagement-maximizing algorithms.
