Description
Colourlab AI comes from a Hollywood-based research lab that describes its work as developing AI technology for real-time color grading, look design, and film emulation. Its product line includes a DaVinci Resolve plugin suite (Colourlab AI 3), a newer standalone application (Colourlab AI 4), and a family of related plugins built by the same lab: Filmlab AI, Look Designer, Grainlab, Halo Lab, Freelab, and Neural Looks.

The Resolve plugin is built around a patented AI Matching Engine based on human perceptual research. It works inside the free version of DaVinci Resolve, without requiring the paid Studio edition. A user can import a still image as a reference and match a clip to it instantly, or match an entire timeline in seconds instead of grading shot by shot. The plugin also includes more than 20 built-in LUTs covering film emulation, creative, and technical looks, along with color management that supports ACES, DWG, JPLog2, and more than 40 camera color spaces. It runs on Mac and Windows with DaVinci Resolve 18, 19, and 20, and the workflow is meant to stay inside Resolve's own node tree rather than requiring an export and re-import step.
Colourlab AI 4 is a separate, newer standalone application, currently free during its public beta, described as bringing new AI engines to the same core tasks: balancing individual shots, matching entire scenes, and creating cinematic film emulations in one workflow.
The Resolve plugin is sold on two subscription tiers: a Creator plan (the plugin, desktop app, AI matching, and the built-in LUTs) and a Pro plan that adds the Look Designer and Grainlab plugins, each available monthly or annually, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Colourlab AI is aimed at indie filmmakers and YouTubers who want strong color without a steep learning curve, professional colorists handling a high volume of projects, and editors who need consistent color across long timelines.
