Description
AdShy is a browser extension designed for Chrome and Firefox users who wish to enhance their web browsing experience by eliminating intrusive advertisements. The extension operates by detecting advertising blocks on web pages and hiding them from view. It employs a combination of local detection and an AI classifier to identify ads. Local detection recognizes ad signals such as labels like 'Advertisement', 'Sponsored', or 'Promoted', as well as known advertising slots and banners. These are hidden immediately within the browser.

For blocks that appear to be ads but lack explicit labels, AdShy uses an AI language model accessed via OpenRouter to classify the content. This AI check is only performed after user consent is obtained. Users can also contribute to the accuracy of the filter by marking content as 'ad' or 'not an ad', which helps refine the AI's classification.
AdShy offers a free plan that allows up to 200 AI checks per day, with the extension continuing to function locally once this limit is reached. A premium plan with a higher daily AI limit is planned for future release. The extension does not analyze or send data from sensitive sites such as financial institutions, health portals, or pages with password fields, ensuring user privacy.
The extension is easy to use, with a toolbar icon indicating the number of ads blocked on a page. Users can view hidden ads and adjust settings through the extension's popup. AdShy is committed to privacy, with no data selling, ads, or trackers involved, and personal rules stored locally in the browser.
