Description
Vibe Kanban is an open-source project on GitHub (BloopAI/vibe-kanban) for teams that spend significant time planning and reviewing the work of AI coding agents rather than writing every line themselves. Its hosted, cloud version has been announced as sunsetting, but the underlying open-source tool remains active and self-hostable, which is what this listing covers.

The workflow starts with kanban issues: work is created, prioritized and assigned on a board, either alone or with a team, the same way a conventional project management board would be used. When an issue is ready to start, Vibe Kanban creates a workspace for it, and each workspace gives a coding agent its own git branch, a terminal and a running dev server to work in, isolating that task from others in progress.
Once an agent has made changes, Vibe Kanban surfaces the diff for review, and comments can be left inline and sent directly back to the agent without leaving the interface. A built-in browser lets reviewers preview the running app, complete with devtools, an inspect mode and device emulation, so a change can be checked visually as well as in code. When a change is approved, Vibe Kanban can open a pull request with an AI-generated description, which is then reviewed and merged on GitHub as normal.
A key feature is agent flexibility: Vibe Kanban supports switching between more than 10 coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, Amp, Cursor, OpenCode, Droid, CCR and Qwen Code, so a team is not locked into one vendor's agent. The tool is installed and run with a single command, npx vibe-kanban, after the user has authenticated with their preferred coding agent.
Vibe Kanban is built with a Rust backend and a Node.js and pnpm frontend, and supports self-hosting, including behind a reverse proxy or on a custom domain, and remote deployment with SSH-based editor integration for opening projects in a local editor connected to a remote server. The GitHub repository has more than 28,000 stars and is released under the Apache License 2.0. Support and feature requests go through GitHub Discussions and Discord, and the project asks that significant changes be discussed with the core team before a pull request is opened.
