To use Transcord, users need to configure it by entering an API key from their chosen AI service provider, such as OpenAI or Moonshot AI. This setup is a one-time process, as the extension securely saves the API key for future use. Once configured, users can simply open Discord or refresh an existing session. When encountering a message in a foreign language, users can right-click on it and select the Transcord option from the context menu. The extension then translates the message into Chinese, presenting it alongside the original text for easy comparison.
Transcord supports over 25 languages, ensuring that a wide range of Discord conversations can be understood. The translation quality is described as "信、达、雅" (faithful, expressive, and elegant), aiming for accuracy and natural language. The extension utilizes a "streaming return" feature, providing a real-time translation experience as if the AI is actively translating for the user. This enhances the user experience by making the translation process feel dynamic and immediate. The extension also supports custom configuration for other OpenAI-like AI service providers, offering flexibility to users.
This tool is particularly beneficial for individuals who participate in international Discord servers, whether for gaming, community building, or professional networking. By eliminating the need to manually copy-paste messages into translation tools, Transcord streamlines communication and prevents users from missing out on important information due to language differences. The developer has stated that they do not collect or use user data, and that data is not sold to third parties outside of the item's core functionality.
