The core innovation behind FO Translator lies in its agent-based translation approach, inspired by Andrew Ng's "translation-agent: Agentic translation using reflection workflow." This method combines translation with a reflection process, enabling more nuanced and contextually appropriate results. The extension seamlessly integrates with OpenAI compatible APIs, allowing users to connect with local endpoints like Ollama or various service providers.
Using FO Translator is straightforward. Simply select any text on a webpage, click the extension's icon, and receive an improved translation within seconds. The extension offers a high degree of customization through its settings, where users can modify prompts for different stages of the translation process, unlocking a wider range of possibilities beyond basic translation.
FO Translator prioritizes user privacy, operating as an open-source tool that does not collect logs. This ensures a safe and transparent experience. The extension is ideal for students aiming for flawless academic writing, travelers seeking to overcome language barriers, businesses communicating with international clients, and anyone looking to experience the power of AI-driven translation.
To optimize translation speed, the reflection function is disabled by default but can be enabled in the settings. Users can also fine-tune prompts for each stage of the translation workflow. FO Translator empowers users to translate like a professional, enhancing communication and understanding across languages.
