Description
Insert, Don't Paste is a Chrome extension developed to address the frustrations encountered when web applications restrict or penalize the act of pasting text into input fields. Many web-based tools, especially those involved in content creation or data entry, offer limited text editing capabilities compared to dedicated editors. This extension aims to circumvent these limitations by employing a method that mimics direct text insertion rather than a standard paste operation.

The primary motivation behind creating Insert, Don't Paste stems from the developer's experience with a specific web application used for training LLM generative AIs. This application, like others, had minimal editing features and lacked essential accessibility options such as a dark mode, leading to eye strain. More critically, it actively discouraged pasting, likely to prevent the introduction of potentially erroneous or inconsistent data from external sources like chatbots. This counterproductive measure significantly slowed down work processes for users.
Insert, Don't Paste tackles this issue by leveraging DOM manipulation. Instead of a typical paste command, the extension 'inserts' the clipboard's content into the active input area. This technique is comparable to how tools like Grammarly integrate text, making it less likely to be flagged or penalized by the target web application's input validation systems. By enabling a smoother and more efficient way to transfer text, the extension aims to restore productivity and reduce user friction in web-based workflows.
The extension is offered by a developer who has identified as a trader and committed to EU law compliance. The developer also states that they will not collect or use user data, nor sell it to third parties outside of the item's core functionality. Support is available through the developer's support site for any questions, suggestions, or problems encountered.
