In 2026, corporate spending on AI is expected to double, rising from 0.8% to approximately 1.7% of revenues. This anticipated surge indicates that AI has become a core business priority, with companies investing in technology, infrastructure, and talent development. The report reveals that industries such as technology and finance are leading the charge, planning to allocate around 2% of their revenues to AI initiatives, while others, like industrial and real estate sectors, are expected to invest less than 1%.
The report also emphasizes the optimism among CEOs regarding the return on investment (ROI) from AI. Approximately 80% of CEOs express greater confidence in their AI investments compared to the previous year, largely due to the rapid advancement of AI agents capable of independent planning and learning. Moreover, 90% of CEOs intend to maintain or increase their AI investments, even if immediate returns are not realized.
The findings categorize CEOs into three groups: Followers, Pragmatists, and Trailblazers. Followers tend to be cautious, investing minimally in AI, while Pragmatists actively engage with AI technologies. Trailblazers, on the other hand, are decisive leaders who prioritize large-scale AI initiatives and have significantly upskilled their workforce. This proactive approach positions them to reap substantial benefits from AI adoption.
As AI continues to evolve, the role of the CEO will be crucial in shaping how organizations integrate AI into their operations. The report outlines key actions for CEOs, including making AI a top priority, building personal fluency in AI, committing to focused investments, and developing workforce capabilities. By embracing AI, CEOs can drive meaningful change and ensure their organizations remain competitive in an increasingly AI-driven landscape.
