VIAME, or Video and Image Analytics for Marine Environments, is an open-source computer vision software platform developed by Kitware in collaboration with NOAA's Automated Image Analysis Strategic Initiative. It is designed for do-it-yourself artificial intelligence applications, particularly in analyzing imagery and video. Initially targeting marine species analytics, VIAME has evolved to include a wide range of algorithms and libraries, making it useful as a generic computer vision library beyond underwater applications.
The platform offers a variety of workflows for generating object detectors, full-frame classifiers, image mosaics, and rapid model generation. Users can leverage Kitware's Interactive Query Refinement (IQR) to quickly generate models for new object classes with minimal effort.
