Description

Typelets is a real-time collaborative code workspace accessible directly through your browser, eliminating the need for any installation or setup. It provides a unified environment for various technical collaboration needs, including interviews, mentoring sessions, pair programming, and code book clubs. The platform is built to address common frustrations with existing code sandboxes, such as locked-down browsers, limited terminal access, and slow compile times, by offering a fast, local execution experience for real code.

Key capabilities include real-time collaborative editing powered by Yjs CRDTs, ensuring every keystroke syncs instantly across participants. Code execution is sandboxed within isolated Firecracker microVMs, providing robust security with no network access, hard CPU and memory caps, and a limited execution time. This ensures that candidate code runs safely and predictably.

The platform supports live test runs with streaming stdout and stderr, and features a problem library with reusable problems, starter files, tests, and rubrics, which users can also customize. Integrated multi-party video and screen sharing within the workspace eliminate the need for external conferencing tools. Every session is recorded, capturing edits, terminal output, test results, and scores for later review and calibration.

Typelets also offers a shared terminal for a synchronized bash session, structured scoring against rubrics, and an always-on hosted preview for persistent web app hosting. Custom subdomains and a mobile spectator view enhance usability. The service is currently free during beta, with plans for a generous grandfathered tier for beta users when paid plans are introduced. Typelets aims to be a more integrated and user-friendly alternative to platforms like CoderPad and HackerRank, focusing on core collaboration features and rapid development based on user feedback.
