Description
CiteTrue is a free AI-powered citation-verification tool that helps researchers and students ensure their citations are authentic and accurate. It searches authoritative academic databases to check each reference and flags any that appear to be fake or AI-generated — an increasingly important safeguard as AI-generated content and fabricated references spread.

Its citation verifier uses retrieval algorithms combined with AI language models to cross-verify citations against millions of academic papers, journals and books. It checks author names, publication years, journal titles and DOIs, then produces a confidence score indicating how likely each citation is to be authentic. The tool can verify dozens or hundreds of citations with a single click and automatically corrects input citation formats.
CiteTrue is aimed at students writing papers, doctoral candidates managing hundreds of references, professors reviewing student work, and journal editors screening submissions. It offers 30 free citation checks every day, with paid plans (Plus, Pro and Max) adding higher monthly quotas, deep verification for tricky citations, suggested replacements and CSV/PDF export.
