The extension functions by capturing audio from web-based video conferences and converting it into text captions. These captions can then be translated into a variety of common languages, including English, Chinese, French, and Japanese. Users have the flexibility to choose between Google Translate or Microsoft Translate for their translation needs, both of which are offered free of charge and do not require any prior registration.
Key features include the ability to display conference voice captions in a new, dedicated window, allowing for a less intrusive viewing experience. This also provides an option to integrate with other preferred translation tools. The extension is compatible with several popular browsers, namely Chrome, Edge, and Arc. For quick access, users can employ shortcut keys, Alt+T or Shift+Alt+T, to open the speech captions display and translation window.
Privacy is a significant consideration, with the developer assuring that all voice caption content is processed and displayed locally on the user's device. No voice caption data is uploaded to any server or saved, ensuring user confidentiality and security. The extension has a user base of 1,000 individuals and is offered by developer Danny Zhu.
This tool is particularly beneficial for remote teams, international businesses, educational institutions, and anyone who frequently participates in video conferences with participants speaking different languages. By providing instant captions and translations, it fosters better understanding, reduces miscommunication, and makes online meetings more inclusive and productive for all attendees.
