This extension currently supports OpenAI-compatible protocol formats. For users to explore its features, it provides a free trial API through SiliconFlow. A key feature is its custom prompt functionality, which allows users to set up frequently used prompts. These prompts can dynamically include page elements such as the page title, its content, or selected text as variables, offering a highly customizable way to query information.
Askman is an open-source project, welcoming contributions from the community to help improve its development. The developers are actively maintaining it, dedicating a portion of their work time, though it is noted as an early test version and may not be fully polished. Users are encouraged to provide patience and understanding during this testing phase.
Recent updates include the ability to change system prompt duration for conversations, support for maximizing the chat interface, and a Preferences tab in the Options page with TOML configuration support. Users can also configure their preferred language, toggle the ASK button on text selection, and set up a page blocklist for this button. Message copying functionality has been enhanced with a fade-in copy button on hover, the ability to copy messages in markdown format, and a content preview on Selection tab hover.
The developers are committed to user privacy, disclosing that Askman handles web history and website content. They declare that user data is not sold to third parties outside of approved use cases, nor is it used or transferred for purposes unrelated to the item's core functionality or for determining creditworthiness. The extension is available in English and was last updated on September 8, 2025.
