Description
The Technology Radar is a twice-yearly snapshot that provides an opinionated guide to today's technology landscape. It serves as a knowledge-sharing tool based on the experiences of Thoughtworks' global teams, highlighting tools, techniques, platforms, languages, and frameworks that organizations may want to explore for their projects.
Each insight shared in the Technology Radar is represented by a 'blip', which can either be new to the latest volume or have moved rings based on changing recommendations. The rings categorize the insights into four groups: 'Adopt', which includes tools that should be seriously considered; 'Trial', for those that are ready for use but not fully proven; 'Assess', which are worth looking at closely; and 'Caution', which suggests alternatives or avoidance based on negative experiences.
The Radar also explores themes emerging from the insights, such as the challenges of evaluating technology in an agentic world, where AI is changing not only technology but also the assessment processes. The rapid emergence of new terms and tools complicates the evaluation landscape, as many tools are still immature and maintained by single contributors. This creates a tension between allowing tools to mature and the risk of guidance becoming outdated.
Another theme is the need to revisit established software engineering principles as AI tools introduce complexity. The Technology Radar emphasizes the importance of retaining good software engineering practices while adapting to the evolving landscape shaped by AI. It also discusses the necessity of managing cognitive debt in an AI-driven environment, ensuring that speed does not compromise understanding and quality.
The Technology Radar is prepared by the Thoughtworks Technology Advisory Board, which includes a diverse group of experts in the field. By providing insights and recommendations, the Technology Radar aims to guide organizations in navigating the complexities of the technology landscape and making informed decisions about the tools and practices they adopt.
