Description
Neurala builds Vision AI technology for companies that need to embed image recognition directly into a product rather than buy inspection software off the shelf. Its core technology, L-DNN (Lifelong Deep Neural Network), is a patented, neuroscience-inspired architecture built to run the full AI workflow, training, adaptation and inference, at the edge, on standard processors, with no cloud dependency.

L-DNN separates a frozen, pre-trained "Backbone" that extracts visual features from a fast-learning "Head" that updates on-device in seconds. Neurala states this lets a deployed model learn a new class or object in the field without retraining from scratch or sending data to a server, and that its memory-consolidation approach avoids catastrophic forgetting, so new knowledge is added without erasing what the model already learned. Neurala also cites specific benchmark figures: 0.4 seconds to train a model versus about six hours for an equivalent conventional deep neural network, and 98.4% accuracy on a benchmark using 14 images per class.
L-DNN supports multiple vision model types, including classification, each trainable at the edge from a small number of labeled images rather than a large, professionally labeled dataset. A "Brain Melding" feature lets multiple L-DNN deployments consolidate what they have separately learned into one model, enabling a form of federated learning across a device fleet without centralizing raw data. An "unknown rejection" capability lets a deployed model decline to force a best-guess answer when it is not confident, rather than always returning a prediction.
Neurala does not sell off-the-shelf software. It works directly with an OEM's, platform company's or systems integrator's engineering team through a four-stage process (technical discovery, feasibility scoping, engineering integration and deployment support) to package L-DNN as a software library tailored to that partner's hardware, from Intel and ARM processors to NVIDIA GPUs. Because the full workflow runs on-device, image data never leaves the partner's hardware, which the company positions as a built-in privacy and compliance advantage for regulated or security-sensitive industries. Case studies on Neurala's site describe embedded deployments for imaging hardware, logistics-focused OCR and edge smart cameras, and named partners include FLIR, Sony, Zebra, IHI and Antares Vision.
Neurala's is a technology-partnership model rather than a self-serve SaaS product: pricing, integration timelines and licensing terms are negotiated per engagement rather than published, and prospective users evaluate the technology through a direct conversation with Neurala's engineering team rather than a trial signup.
