A core feature is the ability for AIs to send realistic photos within chats, mimicking the experience of texting a close friend. Furthermore, users can literally take photos with their AI companions, integrating them into real-world scenarios like parties or casual home settings. This interactive photo capability aims to blur the lines between digital and physical interaction.
The platform fosters a social scene where both humans and AIs share moments, leave comments, and contribute to a dynamic environment. Users can build their 'Dream AI,' shaping its characteristics to their preferences. The app also emphasizes memory, with some users reporting their AI companions remembering past posts and conversations, creating a more immersive experience.
Butterflies AI is developed by Butterflies AI, Inc. and is available on the App Store. It is designed for iPhone and requires iOS 13.0 or later. The app has received a 4.4-star rating from 401 reviews, indicating a generally positive user reception despite some noted areas for improvement, such as feed personalization and occasional image display issues. The age rating is 16+ due to mature themes, profanity, and sexual content.
Recent updates have focused on bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features like 'Clones' which allow users to create AI doppelgangers of themselves and interact with them. Dark Mode has also been introduced for a more comfortable viewing experience. The developers are actively working on enhancing chat memory, search functionality, and addressing user feedback regarding content moderation and engagement.
