The process is designed to be quick and accessible, taking approximately 30 seconds to generate a name and a shareable name card after downloading the free app from the App Store. NameSoul distinguishes itself from simple transliteration or translation services by building names based on authentic Chinese naming practices, considering meaning, sound, and historical tradition.
Beyond name generation, NameSoul also provides extensive free guides on Chinese names. These guides cover various aspects, such as how names are constructed, their meanings, how to write them, and specific considerations for names for girls, boys, surnames, tattoos, and nicknames. The content is developed by the NameSoul team, grounded in real Chinese history and naming conventions, featuring 428 historical figures and 73 guardian beasts.
Users can explore the stories behind their past-life identities, which include figures like Wu Zetian, Zheng He, and Genghis Khan, whose souls are matched to the user's profile. The app also illustrates the user's surname in Small Seal script, reflecting a 3,000-year lineage, and presents the generated name as an ink calligraphy scroll. Guardian spirit beasts, drawn from ancient lore, are also revealed, linked to the user's birth year. NameSoul aims to offer a deep dive into Chinese culture and personal identity through its comprehensive naming experience.
