The AI Mechanic feature allows users to describe symptoms, paste trouble codes, or show photos of the dashboard to receive vehicle-specific advice. It works with or without an OBD-II scanner, though it can pair with Bluetooth ELM327 adapters for direct code scanning. MECH AI provides guided diagnostics, resumable sessions, and a digital garage with a Vehicle Health score and timeline.
Users can access Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) lookups, AI-generated wiring diagrams, and step-by-step repair guides. The app also offers Amazon and eBay parts search, NHTSA recall alerts, and repair estimates. MECH AI is available on iOS, Android, and web platforms, with a free tier that includes ad-supported access to basic features.
Pricing plans include DIY at $7.99/month, MECHANIC at $19.99/month, and AUTOSHOP at $59.99/month, with annual billing options offering discounts. Users can cancel anytime through their subscription settings. MECH AI is not just a ChatGPT wrapper; it is built on a frontier AI model with automotive-specific reasoning and integrated tools.
The app is particularly useful for diagnosing issues across various makes and models, providing honest advice on when professional help is needed. It does not reprogram or tune ECUs but helps users understand vehicle information and make informed repair decisions.
