Description
Kaia Health is a digital-first care platform built for employers and health plans, not for direct-to-consumer sign-up. It runs two clinical programs under one company: Kaia MSK, for musculoskeletal pain such as back, hip and knee pain, and Kaia Breathe, a pulmonary rehabilitation program for people living with COPD.

Both programs follow the same model. An in-house team of Doctors of Physical Therapy builds the exercise and coaching content and updates it to match current national clinical guidelines, so the therapy mirrors what a patient would get in a clinic. Kaia Breathe pairs guided breathing techniques, pulmonary education and exercise therapy with motion analysis technology that checks a person's form and exercise safety through their phone, described on the site as available around the clock. Members also get 1:1 health coaching to stay on track. Because the program runs on a phone, there are no in-person appointments or extra hardware to buy.
Kaia positions the model as an alternative to costly, hard-to-access in-clinic multimodal therapy, which the company describes as the clinical gold standard for pain management. The platform cites clinical outcomes across 11 trials and reports at least 3x ROI in claims studies run with employers, including a study with a Fortune 150 company. A randomized controlled trial on Kaia Breathe, published in the pulmonary journal Thorax, found that COPD patients using the program kept higher physical activity levels and had improved pulmonary symptoms compared to standard care, over six months.
Kaia Health sells to employers and health plans rather than individual consumers; the company says it is used by more than 2,500 employers and health plans and is integrated into large healthcare organizations. It holds ISO 13485 medical device certification and states it is HIPAA and GDPR compliant, with a presence in both the United States and Germany.
In a recent announcement, Kaia Health said it is joining Sword Health; the site does not detail what that change means for the existing MSK and Breathe programs going forward.
The platform's main limitation is access: individuals cannot sign up on their own. Coverage depends on whether an employer or health plan has contracted with Kaia, and prospective partners are directed to book a demo rather than start a free trial.
