The core functionality revolves around enhancing the academic writing process. This includes advanced paper polishing, powered by ChatGPT 3.5 and GPT-4, which can be initiated with a single click or tailored to specific revision requirements. Beyond polishing, the tool offers comprehensive grammar checking for both English and Chinese, ensuring linguistic accuracy. High-quality translation services are also provided, with a focus on maintaining academic style.
Furthermore, Overleaf Copilot offers valuable writing suggestions to help users improve their papers. It also features a high-quality prompt library, allowing users to discover, share, and utilize effective prompts for various writing tasks. A key convenience feature is the automatic copying of revision and translation results to the clipboard, minimizing manual steps.
The extension emphasizes high customizability to adapt to individual user needs and writing styles. Users can create custom prompts, set custom keyboard shortcuts for increased efficiency, and adjust the interface layout to suit different writing scenarios. Information security is a priority, with the developer stating that user content is not saved and only forwarded for processing.
Common use cases include language polishing for novice academic writers, assistance for instructors or senior students in reviewing papers, and support for drafting and refining extensive academic documents.
